無我 (むが muga): without self

It is easy to focus on our own difficulties and achievements and forget to see external environment that is constantly influencing our thoughts and behaviors. However, during Chado practice, it important for the host and the guest to have the utmost consideration for the other. The mindset of diminishing the presence of self in order to focus on others is 無我。

Taking the same ideology and applying it to our daily lives, the mindset of 無我 leads one to keep a tranquil heart. During times of turbulence, empathizing with others can let us not dwell upon our own sullen. When we experience success, being thankful to other factors that contributes to our achievements will keep us away from pride.
